Can't get feed to display

Can't get feed to display

Postby clubshub » Fri Sep 03, 2010 4:58 pm

Hi!

I'm really enjoying experimenting with SuperRSS Reader but I can't seem to get it to display my feed. I've tried giving it both .rss and .xml files to work with but all I can get is the reader to load and not the content. Is there something I should be more conscious of that I'm missing? My hope is to operate without the added complications of tabs but even when I try tabs I get the tabs but not the content.

My main worry is that I've not configured it correctly and I'm printing white on white or completely transparent (tried setting transparency to 50 just in case) because the scroll bar appears to scroll but I see no content. I also tried setting the Background Colour to pink but the resulting web page only seems to show white as the background colour.

My test page is here: http://www.austinpark.com/jt3.htm

Is there a particular format the feed file must take? Your help is very much appreciate, I believe I'm very close to an answer I just can't seem to see it.

THanks.

Ok, I manually changed wmode to "opaque" from "transparent" and now the background colour is coming in but still no RSS content.

What am I doing wrong???

I think I've narrowed it down to either the format of my rss file (is that not standard?) or the way I'm addressing it. I tried to call my feed in on the Super RSS Reader you have embedded here:

http://www.aakashweb.com/flash-gadgets/ ... ss-reader/

And I still couldn't get the content to come up. Now I'm even more perplexed.

Your ideas are very much appreciated but now I understand you may conclude that this is not strictly your problem. Still, the same feed URLs work with other readers so what am I missing about your much nicer reader?

Thanks again for reading all this.

Thanks for using Super RSS Reader. The problem is just with your server.
Actually, this reader uses PHP to get the external or current domain's RSS feed. The file loadXML.php does this action. This file pulls the rss feed and displays in the reader.

The reason for no output is, your server is not executing the loadXML.php file. Instead, it just prints the PHP file. Take a look at the file.

If your server supports PHP, then it should execute the PHP. You should contact the server host for more details.
My suggestion is enabling/changing PHP config or hosting the reader in any other php enabled server

Thanks & Regards

Thanks for your response!

Yes, as it turns out my hosting package does not include PHP support. So all that time was spent for nothing I guess :(

I really like your RSS Reader and if I can get the people in charge to agree to a hosting upgrade I'll definitely try to get it implemented.

The elimination of Grazr has really messed us up!

Thanks again,
Boris

Hi Akash,

I upgraded my hosting account to include PHP and now I get a new error:

Sorry Unable to Load "http://www.austinpark.com/2010-09-01.rss"

Some Suggestions:

• The RSS Server can be down.
• The Settings of this Reader can Wrong i.e Wrong Proxy file URL, RSS URL.
• The Feed/RSS URL can be an atom feed.

I have also tried this with the same result using an XML file (APMG-test.xml).

So what am I doing wrong now?

All you have to check is the PHP file. The entire reader works with this PHP file only.
Make sure that the PHP file is accessible i.e make sure you have used the correct URL of the php file.
If the PHP file is correctly entered then the reader should work.

Please, give me the link of the reader. I am ready to find the problem. The old link isn't working.

Hi Akash,

Thanks for taking the time to help me get this working. I have removed and re-installed all the components and reinstalled them in their own folder. I have created new Embed Code with these changes, and it still doesn't seem to work (and I think it may still be a problem with my hosting).

An example of the newly embedded code is at www.austinpark.com/jt5.htm and the error is the same.

Here's an unusual twist: when I supply the url of the XML file to the reader on your site or on another site using your reader (http://vongehrconsulting.com/Finding-An ... ul-leader/) it works just fine.

Should I be modifying the PHP file?

It seems like you cannot read feeds from you own website. This is an interesting problem.
I tested with various xml files, domains etc but never encountered a problem like this !

But i got a solution for this. It is to use feedburner.
Get a feedburner.com account and add the feed http://www.austinpark.com/APMG-test.xml to it.

Then, you will get a URL like http://feeds2.feedburner.com/austinpark (you can customize this)
Now use this url as your Feed URL in super RSS reader. This method will definitely work.

Also, feedburners output is supported by major feed readers. It will correct the tags and other errors also. You can get the feed views and many more things.
